Therapy for Addiction Recovery

Individual and Group Therapy

Lilac Recovery Center provides a range of different therapy options to meet the different needs of our clients. This includes both individual and group therapies that provide the necessary tools to understand addiction, change and overcome harmful habits, and develop a healthy foundation for coping with daily struggles and preventing relapse. Our therapy services address the needs of the individual and provide tools to rebuild relationships with family and other loved ones.

Therapy is a vital tool in relieving stress, reducing anxiety and depression, and creating a support system. Therapy also provides numerous tools to overcome potential harmful or addictive urges. Focusing on mental health is vital in providing balance and peace for a client dealing with substance use disorders. Therapy provides a safe space to focus on the way a person once thought, behaved, and acted that may have been harmful or destructive. They can learn to replace these negative elements with ones that are positive and beneficial for sobriety.

Medication Assisted Treatment for Addiction

Medication assisted treatment (MAT) is a commonly used service for clients who want to overcome substance addiction. This refers to the use of carefully monitored medication in combination with counseling and behavioral therapies. MAT can help an individual better achieve their goals and maintain long-term sobriety.

MAT is a common service provided at recovery centers because it helps to manage side effects and withdrawal symptoms that can be uncomfortable and life-threatening. Using MAT can help to strengthen both the mental and behavioral state of the individual who is on the path to recovery.

MAT is a research-based treatment approach that has been shown to:

  • Increase retention during rehab
  • Increase survival rate
  • Decrease relapse rates
  • Decrease the likelihood of participation in criminal activity
  • Decrease the risk of falling into old habits
  • Increase the likelihood of maintaining steady employment
  • Increase the likelihood of maintaining a healthy lifestyle
Medication Assisted Treatment

Commonly used medications include buprenorphine, methadone, and naltrexone. Our team of experienced physicians works with the client to determine the best MAT for their unique needs. MAT provides a means to safely and effectively detox from any prior substance use while building the foundation for a sober future.

Meditation Class for Mindfulness

Mindfulness Activities

Mindfulness-based sobriety is designed to help an individual understand and implement the concept of acceptance. Acceptance is a commonly used term throughout the recovery process. While the concept is simple, implementing it can be a serious struggle for those starting their sobriety journey.

To start, a person must learn to be mindful, which is the idea of staying rooted in the here and now. When trying to maintain a sober lifestyle, this is all about focusing on the present. There are no real benefits in dwelling on the mistakes of the past or worrying about a future that is uncertain and unpredictable. Worry is a common struggle for those in addiction recovery. Focusing on being mindful of the present reduces the energy and mental focus wasted on things that are outside of the client’s control.

The purpose of mindfulness-based sobriety is to help clients who internalize stress or have a habit of turning to substance use when things become overwhelming. This method of treatment combines evidence-based approaches as well as holistic approaches to help an individual understand their triggers and learn how to cope by staying present in the feelings created by their triggers. Identifying triggers and developing healthy coping mechanisms can help a client focus on their thoughts and feelings and face them instead of trying to run from them. Facing and accepting difficult situations, people, and environments can help an individual maintain their long-term sobriety.

Physical Health

A client’s physical health can be greatly impacted by drug or alcohol abuse. A client may struggle with headaches, blackouts, seizures, or physical function impairments. A person may also be severely underweight or out of shape because of the general neglect of self-care that the focus on substance use can cause. Addressing physical health is a key aspect of full long-term recovery.

There are several different options for creating habits that are beneficial for physical health. This could be participating in individual or group yoga, hikes, biking, jogging, swimming, dancing, or other forms of physical activity that a person finds enjoyable. Physical exercise provides a rush of naturally induced endorphins that leave a person feeling good. Maintaining physical health also helps to minimize stress and refocus the mind. Exercise can help regulate emotions, create a greater sense of mental stability, and improve general functioning.

Playing Ping Pong in Recovery

Investing in physical health is a great way to increase self-esteem and positivity. Actively working on physical health provides a structured activity that is beneficial on several levels. At Lilac Recovery Center, we believe in the restorative powers of reconnecting both the body and the mind. Full recovery involves every aspect of the individual.
